Purpleheart, also known as Amaranth or violetwood, is an unusually striking hardwood from the Brazilian regions of South America.  It's density and durability make it an excellent choice for exterior decking.  The off-white or lighter cream color of the sapwood of purpleheart contrasts sharply with the heartwood, which is brown when freshly cut, changing to a deep, vibrant purple or purplish brown over time. While most hardwoods typically require annual maintenance due to their lack of porosity, purpleheart accepts stain beautifully. When maintained properly, Purpleheart will produce stunning results!
